All About Me
Art is a never ending journey that we see every day. I love to create and design and tend not to follow the rules, some of them are way too rigid and uptight for my liking! Just because someone said it was done that way does not mean it is the only way, each person perceives things differently and may show you something you never dreamed possible-that is what we call originality.
I grew up in Canada and our beautiful country has always been an inspiration to me. My formal education is my life experiences that have pushed me to pursue my life dreams of creating art. I was discouraged at the end of high school by someone who told me that I should not be a graphic artist...well, I’ve regretted listening to that person ever since that day! I became a travel agent for 5 years before I’d had enough! I worked in customer service until 1995 when I became a stay at home mom. It’s been the busiest, most rewarding, job of my life. I love photography and have had a camera as far back as I can remember. I used to take photos of giant freighters stuck in the ice in front of my house, in the shipping channel on St. Joe’s Island, when I was eight years old. I also have several gymnastic action shots from those days, mind you; they’re all pretty grainy images! I love working with photos to sometimes show deeper meanings or maybe even a totally different concept, this is where I love to create. I haven’t really done much painting or drawing since about 1987, I think my last piece was a watercolour/pen and ink cat, I still have it. Most of what I have done since then is with fabric, after I fell in love with quilts and my sewing machine. I love manipulating and designing with fabric and have also designed several figure skating dresses for my daughter.
I love to portray the thoughts I have when I take a photo and share the meanings in my work. There are so many stories to tell and so many revelations. If I can make you stop and think or if I can catch someone's eye with my work and it inspires just one other person then it makes it all worthwhile. We live in such a beautiful world and appreciating all that surrounds us is just a stepping stone. The art world is a place of diverse personalities and tastes, we all have different talents and strengths – no one person is better than anyone else, it is a constant learning environment of self -discovery. It’s sometimes hard to understand that something you like may not be something someone else likes, or may not be done the same way as everyone else, but that is what being an individual is all about. I try to take things further than the picture and hopefully attach an emotional feeling to my work. I have been influenced mostly by my family and events in my lifetime. Life is too short not to notice all the beauty around us or not to tell those around us how we feel. Sometimes a piece of artwork can send a strong message that otherwise would be hard to say or it can make you stop and catch your breath, or help you to discover your inner child and stir up old memories. Sometimes the artwork that I sell is not my favourite but that’s what it’s all about, the ones that wow me may not be the same as the ones that wow you!!
I do not use any stock photography in my images. I feel that to do this my artwork would not be my own. That said, I do not hold it against people who do, it is just my personal preference and my conscience that will not allow me to do so! I have sold prints in the United States ,Canada and the UK.
Thank you for taking the time to stop by. If you have any other questions or would like specific work done or if you just have a question please feel free to contact me. I would love to hear from you.
